Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a specialized imaging modality that uses a magnetic field without radiation to produce high-resolution 3D images of the organs and structures inside the body. The amount of information provided by the exam is directly related to the strength of the magnetic field.

In 2014, Southwoods Imaging in Boardman was the first facility to offer 3T MRI in Mahoning County and remains the only provider offering this level of technology with multiple 3T units in one location. In 2022, Southwoods became the first provider to offer 3T MRI in Trumbull County at our Howland location. You may not be a good candidate for an MRI if you have aneurysm clips, a pacemaker/defibrillator or certain types of cochlear implants. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask the MRI staff or the radiologist.
